The DJI Wind Series has been specifically designed to suit the needs of commercial operators. They are heavy-lift drones capable of carrying a variety of payloads, as well as being capable of being fitted with a number of bespoke additions.

Despite their size, they have an incredibly foldable and portable design and are both waterproof and dustproof. The Wind Series is compatible with a wide range of third-party payloads. DJI have ultimately designed the series to be as versatile as possible, as well as being suitable for a range of industrial applications.

The Latest Additions to the DJI Family

Two new DJI Wind Series drones were released to the market recently. The DJI Wind 4 and DJI Wind 8 are the latest additions to the DJI family. With the Wind 4 capable of carrying payloads of up to nearly 30 pounds (13.5kg), and the Wind 8 sporting an 8-armed octocopter platform for superior control and redundancy.

What are they made of? They are both made of light-weight and compact industrial material that is capable of resisting up to 5-grade wind. They can also quite easily adapt to temperatures ranging from -10ยฐC to 50ยฐC.

The Wind 4 and Wind 8 both use the impressive DJI MG-12000 batteries. They are housed in a protective shell and dampers, thus making the cables well protected for safety and reliability. The battery also offers a more stable voltage, and thus extends the lifespan.

The Wind 8 also comes with extendable legs. These allow for large payloads to be added underneath, as well as allowing it to carry dual cameras. Its shell is easily adaptable and customisable, thus making it one of the finest bespoke units on the market.

    Camera Compatibility

The DJI Wind series is compatible with the following range of cameras:

    Third Party Payload Integration

Here at COPTRZ, we can integrate a wide range of third-party payload integrations to the Wind Series. A number of third-party payloads have the ability for integration with the Wind Series. We’re going to look at some of them here:

    LiDAR:
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a remote sensing method that can be used to examine the surface of the Earth. The systems allow the user to examine both natural and manmade environments with accuracy and precision.

    Flir Duo Pro:
The Flir Duo Proย is an aerial thermal camera designed for industrial, commercial and public safety applications. The Flir Duo Pro combines dual high-resolution thermal and 4k visual imaging into a single powerful and convenient package. You have the ability to select either a thermal or visible camera in flight. Alternatively, you can watch both video streams simultaneously.

    Flir Vue Pro R:
The Flir Vue Proย is an aerial thermal camera that has been designed to specifically be easily integrated within an existing UAV. The Flir Vue Pro R has made the cost of delivering aerial thermal imaging affordable for commercial drone operations.

    Parrot Sequoia:
The Parrot Sequoiaย is a multispectral sensor that has revolutionised the agriculture sector. It offers comprehensive and adaptable solutions.ย With its two sensors, multispectral and sunshine, Sequoia analyses plantsโ€™ vitality by capturing the amount of light they absorb and reflect.

    MicaSense RedEdge:
The MicaSense RedEdgeย is an advanced multispectral camera that has been specifically designed for UAVs. It provides accurate multiband data for agricultural remote sensing. It has five bands (blue, green, red, red edge and near-infrared) providing the operator with exceptional levels of data.

    Weather Resistance

The Wind Series comes with an incredibly impressive IP56 rating, thus making it one of the best drones for weather resistance. The IP56 rating essentially means it is incredibly tolerant to extreme weather conditions, from freezing temperatures to high winds.

Police Scotland recently acquired the Wind 8 due to its impressive IP rating. With the harsh conditions of the Scottish mountains and landscape, therefore the weather resistance qualities of the Wind 8 makes it an ideal option for them.

    Summary

The Wind Series is an excellent release from DJI, and one which we think will dominate the commercial market in the coming years. It’s ability to house third-party payloads is undoubtedly the biggest asset that sets it apart from some of the out-of-the-box solutions on the market.

Due to data capture dramatically improving over the last year, drones are needing more than ever to seamlessly integrate third-party payloads. The Wind Series does this seamlessly and is certainly an investment you will benefit from.
