Drones for Surveying – Which is best?
As a surveyor by trade I know importance of achieving quality data quickly and efficiently, and if this is something that you’re also looking to achieve, you definitely should consider adopting drones into your operations.
I’ve put together this quick blog to run through the best equipment available for the surveying industry and how you can get a closer look at these drones, cameras and software at our Live Drone Demo Day (Rugby, 5th of March 2020).
In the fashion of saving time, I’ve recorded this short video to explain everything in a nutshell:
“Why Use Drones for Surveying?”
Challenging terrain comes with the territory of surveying, and more often than not access and measuring points are difficult to reach and require time heavy and meticulous planning and operations.
The recent introduction of drones into the surveying industry has seen UAV’s fast-tracking traditional methods, resulting in easier, faster, safer and cost-effective surveys across the whole industry.
Your choice of sensors, surveying software and drone can have a huge impact on the data you’re able to capture for your projects and it can be confusing to get your head around which will be best for your specific application.

“What will I see at the Demo Day?”
I’ll be taking the guess work out of deciding the right equipment for your business at the COPTRZ Live Drone Demo Day in March. You’ll be able to experience the largest range of commercial drones, cameras and software in the UK under one roof, allowing you to make more informed decisions, as well as the opportunity to speak to industry experts such as James Wardlow-Area Sales Manager at Phase One and hear case studies from those who have already adopted drones into their operations.
Some of the technology we’ll be demonstrating include:
Phase One Cameras
For those seeking the extraordinary, James Wardlow Area Sales Manager at Phase One will be showcasing the IXM Camera Series, speaking about his experience as a navigator/ aerial survey specialist and knowledge of these survey – grade camera systems.
Find out more about Phase One here.
A popular industry choice, the LiDAR ScanLook Revolution provides a great entry point in terms of cost and accuracy. Featuring 2-4cm absolute accuracy within specified tolerances, these lidar units are a survey must and are ideal for a whole range of analysis related tasks.

Wingtra PPK Fixed- Wing VTOL
Interested in becoming 80% faster on your surveying operations? You’ll want to check out the Wingtra PPK Fixed- Wing VTOL, this fully autonomous fixed-wing drone designed specifically for long-distance surveying applications. We’ll have a dedicated demonstration for this drone, or why not stop by our Wingtra stand and see this drone and it’s data upclose.
Find out more about Wingtra here.
If you’re interested in upgrading your current aircraft model to a WingtraOne and save thousands in the process then you should check out our Wingtra Trade-in Scheme.
Drones for Surveying Case Studies
There’s no better testimony for switching to drones than the calibre and experiences of my previous customers. You’ll be able to hear first-hand from our previous clients such as Historic England about their drone successes and operations.
But if you can’t wait until then, you can view five drone surveying case studies here.
If you’re thinking about adopting drone technology in 2020 or upgrading your existing equipment in 2020, you don’t want to miss this event!
I look forward to seeing you there!
