Part 1 of a 2 part series, this blog will take you through the different commercial applications the Matrice 200 series is ideal for.

The Matrice 200 series are commercial drones from DJI that are built for robustness and durability. Adaptive engineering that makes it suitable for a wide range of commercial applications. It is precise and reliable and capable of carrying a variety of payloads to fit the numerous applications it has.

The operation range is a huge 7km. There is also a maximum flight time of 38 minutes to truly get the job done. Its high-performance motors power 17-inch propellers to maintain stable flight even in high winds, while the dual-battery system is designed to keep batteries heated even when operating in sub-zero temperatures.

It is tough and versatile, able to resist the rain as well, with a 2kg payload capacity to send it soaring into any environment. And it is fully portable, easy to pack and unpack, so you can get it to and from a site with ease. The series includes the Matrice 200, the Matrice 210 and the Matrice 210 RTK, all designed with commercial end users in mind.

    Commercial applications:

    Powerline Inspections

The Matrice 200 series is engineered with enhanced reliability and overall precision, so it enables operators to carry out inspections of power line networks with unparalleled precision. Infrastructure projects like power lines are complex and involve many stakeholders and large investments, so it is the best interests of inspectors to provide accurate and timely surveys when required.

The Matrice 200 series empowers inspectors to get the job done efficiently and effectively. Payloads like the Z30, with its 30x optical zoom capabilities, and the thermal imaging XT2 will help provide extra dimensions to these surveys which would otherwise not be possible.

    Agriculture

Commercial drones have provided farmers with an easier way to undertake crop scouting operations than having to pilot an aircraft and take photos and video. The rugged endurance and long flight time of the Matrice 200 Series drones make them ideal for this task.

They can carry the X4S payload to take 20MP still images of the area below. The Matrice 200 Series can also be fitted with the XT2 payload to deliver precise and rapid thermal imaging with <50 mK sensitivity. What this means is that farmers can get detailed, accurate aerial imaging of crops. This includes thermal imaging, to assess the health and progress of their yields.

You can make informed decisions about what to do with regards to crop health. This can be achieved with relatively little hassle by replacing manned flights with unmanned drones. The Matrice 210 even offers dual downward gimbals. Allowing more than one payload to be carried simultaneously.

    Security

One obvious commercial application of drones is security, particularly the monitoring of large outdoor spaces. Flying up high, anyone on the ground would be unlikely to detect the drone’s presence. It can feed back images in real time to the operator for a powerful security tool.

Having a bird’s-eye view of a location is always advantageous from a security perspective. You can observe multiple areas simultaneously. The precision hovering of the M200 enables a steady, consistent picture of what’s taking place on the ground below.

    Mining

Mining is one of the oldest and most notoriously dangerous industries the human race has engaged in. But, it is still an essential part of our civilisation. There have been numerous technological advances to make mining safer since mankind first began digging up resources from the ground, but a commercial drone is one of the greatest in recent times.

If there are question marks around the safety of an area, be it due to doubts over its integrity of suspicion that a toxic gas has been released, a drone can be sent in to analyse the area. With the right payload, an M200 drone will allow operators a comprehensive view of the interior of a mine for surveying purposes. The safety can be assessed without putting any lives at risk.

Where else can the Matrice 200 Series be used?

The Matrice 200 series drones are also suitable for precision inspections and surveys of wind turbines, bridges, solar panels, telecoms and constructions sites, as well as assisting in search and rescue operations and firefighting. The versatility and durability of these drones are powerful assets for commercial applications. They have been making an increasingly indelible mark on commercial industries since arriving on the scene in 2017.

Depending on your industry, the decision to be made centres on which of the series to invest in. The Matrice 210 and 210 RTK include features like dual and upward-facing gimbals. This can be extremely useful in certain situations. And the payloads you will need will vary from industry to industry. Ensure you are aware of your needs and how DJI can meet them. In the right hands, the Matrice 200 Series drones are real game changers. You are sure to benefit from having one or more in your fleet.
